40 Book Challenge 2018-2019
The purpose of the 40 Book Challenge is to provide adequate support and challenge to each student in expanding their reading capabilities. Students are individually challenged to read at least 1 book a week, during the school year to reach the 40 Challenge Book. Students who are avid and on grade level or above in their reading should be reading mostly chapter books. For students who are working towards being on grade level need to be reading at least a chapter book a month along with other books to help them achieve their 40 books during the year. Within the 40 books the students are challenged to read broadly among genres for exposure to a wide variety of books.

January Book Share
The students need to create a game that can be played with either the whole class or just a few students. It can be based on a game that is already out there (Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader, 20 Questions, Trivial Pursuit, Memory, Jeopardy). It must have directions about how to play the game or rules of the game. It must use facts from the book. It does not have to be super fancy or difficult, but effort is required. I can provide copies of blank game boards and spinners if you need them. The non-fiction book needs to be at least 25 pages long and be on the student’s reading level. If any student needs help with their book report, I will be available during recesses to help students. The book report will be due on Wednesday, February 3. If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know.
