We have been in school for a week and a half now! We are making excellent progress on having our class Mission Statement written, we have taken some pre-benchmarks to identify what we know (we have one more to take) and we have begun digging into our rich curriculum this year. We have also started to read Frindle which is going to be pretty exciting to see what happens in this book.

The school year has started off great. Our class was able to get our class mission statement written, organized our classroom management, and learning has commenced. We have focused heavily on our math skills using ST Math and recently added Reflex with our math facts to support our direct instruction. In Language Arts we are reading, writing, speaking and listening throughout the entire day. We have been enjoying blogging among ourselves in class through Kidsblog as well as we are working on our Traffic Light Writing organization (using the traffic light as as signal for parts of a paragraph). In the near future we will have students showcase their writing talent on our class blog right here. Check back in October to see what they have to say about our classroom.

Wetland Presentation
We went to the gym on January 27, 2015. They were from the Utah Aquarium. We got to play wetland Jeopardy. In Jeopardy there were mystery boxes that had cattail fluff and Wetland soil. Next there was close up pictures of insects and amphibians. Last there were noises that we had to guess what it was. Then we got to touch and look at cool animals such as a King Snake that was a baby and was very slimy. Then we saw a Tiger Salamander that was yellow and black. Next we saw a Red-spotted Toad that was venomous. Last we saw a Gopher Snake that was huge. We saw how the Wetland water cleans the polluted water. We also saw how the wetland soil soaked up all the extra water. We had so much fun. It was amazing with all the animals and to learn about the wetland.

October- Red Ribbon Week Recess
Written by Average Child
In recess we played drug free games but there were only a few games but it made remember never to take drugs. The drug free games are good games one was you had to try to knock over a bowl because the bottom of was about taking drugs but when their knocked over it’s a sign that you said no to drugs, we got to tie a ribbon on the fence that spells out drug free . We also played tug-a-war to beat drugs it was a lot of fun to play tug a war most kids played it several times. We tied a ribbon to the fence next to the biggest playground on the property, you can see that it says drug free and it’s in red.

Museum on the Move
Written by- Hannah Banana and Alise
A lady named Miss Julie came to our class. We talked about animals and insects. We studied the animals and insects from the museum. We used our 5 senses ( but one) smell, touch, see, and hear but not taste. We looked at fish at animal skeletons and they looked very cool. We touched soft and rough feathers. We looked at fish amphibians and a whole lot more in bottles. we looked through a microscope to look at insects. Last but not least we had butterflies, moths, chipmunks, and turtle shells to explore. We took a lot of notes and the posters Miss Julie brought helped us with our information. We had a lot of fun.

Today we had a lawyer named Mr. Gibbon come to our class. We set up our classroom as a court room. We did an act in a court room with the Cinderella story. We had a jury and a judge, bailiff, court clerk, prosecutor, defendant and witnesses. We did a whole thing. In this trial instead of a step mom it was a dad. Instead the witness's were step sisters, Cinderella and the neighbor. we had a great time we had so much fun. (Written by student bloggers)

Our first week of school is finished! What a great week, thank you Superleaders. I am so impressed with how great we all worked together this week. I have a feeling we will have a very successful year. We spent time this week talking about some of the 7 Habits. We discussed Habit #1 Be Proactive- I am in charge of Me. Habit #2 Begin with the End in Mind and Habit #3 Put First Things First.
We set a class goal of having 90% homework turned in every week until Halloween. This week we reached that goal.
We started our Science Questions routine. This includes writing down questions, answers and sometimes diagrams then studying those questions at home each night. On Tuesday mornings we will take a science quiz based on those questions. This week the questions were all about Ms. Stevenson.
We spent time this week in creating our class mission statement. This was quite the process, and we were successful.
Here is the class mission statement:
Ms. Stevenson’s 4th grade Bobcat leaders are kind, helpful, organized and proactive. While getting a good education we will be a buddy not a bully. We are Superleaders.
